Justice: three young judges tell their daily
After at least five years of study and training nearly three years at the National School of Magistrates (ENM ) Bordeaux The time comes for young judges to rub the realities of business. The new batch was found involved in a sling Judicial unprecedented. Three young judges tell them everyday.
Amelia, 28, deputy prosecutor in Bobigny
Amélie prosecutor at the court in Bobigny (Seine-Saint-Denis) for six months. Its hearings last week were not suspended, so she continued to work. This has not prevented not fully support the movement:
"I always said that I do not unionize. But now I'm seriously thinking. I'm offended by the remarks of the President of the Republic. "
On the Riviera, it was comfortable
The lack of resources and work overload are much talked about reality. The young judge tells 28-year daily difficulties to properly manage their records. She is regularly on duty four days in a row without respite day and night:
"The day I have to run to the right and left, sometimes with dozens of calls on hold. At night I can go home but I am sometimes woken up six times to deal with urgent issues. "
She admits that situations are totally different from one jurisdiction to another
"During my training, I worked in some courts on the Cote d'Azur where the problems were minor. There were a number of judges and court clerks and adequate working conditions comfortable enough. "
" I have a good salary and I deserve it "
In Bobigny, in the poorest department of France, the social climate is difficult to grasp for a young judge. Neither the school nor the judiciary its path of academic excellence have never prepared. And as often happens, the misery of users is reflected in the facilities:
"The physical conditions are deplorable. I share an office in a basement with another colleague. And a few weeks ago too, the toilets on the other side of the wall fled directly into our office. "
Amelia hopes that the movement that has shaken the judiciary will give a good image of justice and its officials:
" The government pretends to be privileged. I work about 60 hours per week. I start at 8 am and never finish before 20 hours. I earn between 2,500 and 2,800 euros net per month. It is a very good salary, but I deserve it given my schedule. Today, I ask just a little respect. "
Alexis, 33, judge in Beauvais
Before becoming a magistrate, Alexis mihman has taught criminal law at the Universities of Paris. It estimates its average working time to 70 hours weekly. He is 33 years old and earns 2,500 euros a month, "which is not more than 7 euros an hour."
He took office as judge of the Tribunal de Grande Instance de Beauvais (Oise) last September and was fully involved in the protest movement with the Union of Magistrates (USM), the main union for the profession which he is the local representative:
"I am very happy to make this new job, but it's not easy every day. I worry what will become, how it will be considered. "
Adrian, 27 years on probation
Adrian, 27, did not participate in the sling. He is currently undertaking one of the last stages of its mandatory training of future judges. Member of the Union of Magistrates (ranked left) explains:
"At school we were often repeated need to work quickly and be immediately effective. When we find ourselves for the first time in training, it's very surprising to see judges drowning under tons of records. "Choosing
court based its material
February 25, the classification output of the ENM will be unveiled. Adrian will be his fate. In September, he would be assigned to the application of penalties or education. The problems of how each could affect the court's choice:
"Once we know his rank, he must call each jurisdiction to get an idea of its operation. We may want to work in a large court, with important issues, but where there may be more hardware problems. We must weigh the pros and cons. "
Adrian admits that he did not consider his future profession like that. Neither the problems of operational material, nor lack of respect for the institution or, naively, that of independence:
"When I passed the test of the NME, I was just motivated by the idea to a profession whose business is located in the center of society. "
